Chignahuapan, a magical place to know

Puebla has wonderful destinations to visit, one of them is the Magical Town of Chignahuapan. Its name means "over the nine waters" and comes from Nahuatl origin. It is a place rich in traditions, customs, and with truly spectacular sites of interest that earned it the designation of Pueblo Mágico on October 30, 2012.

It is located to the north of the state of Puebla, bordering to the north with Zacatlán, to the south with the state of Tlaxcala, and with the town of Ixtacamaxtitlán, to the east with the town of Aquixtla and to the west with the state of Hidalgo and is the third municipality largest in the state.

One of the most famous stories of Chignahuapan is that Gaspar Henaine "Capulina" is a native of here, and although he did not visit the town frequently, from time to time he was seen in the downtown area and in the zocalo a statue was unveiled to way of homage.

If you are a fan of sport fishing this place is ideal, here you can catch a good rainbow trout and participate in the famous fishing tournaments.


Shrine of the Immaculate Conception


A place converted into a sanctuary in 2005 and where you will find the sculpture of the Virgin Mary, as well as the rug made entirely of sawdust and a wonderful mosaic.

Parish of Santiago Apostol


It was built in the 16th century, in the tower on the right side is the first clock made by the famous Centenario de Zacatlán factory. And inside the church awaits, on a neoclassical altar, the Virgin of the Assumption. It is accompanied by a couple of baroque altarpieces on the sides, dedicated to the Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Conception.

Main Square


It is located in the downtown area, it has a nice kiosk and a fountain, here you can rest and enjoy a pleasant walk.


In addition to tourist places, you can attend their traditional festivals such as "The traditional Fair of the sphere and the tree fair", since this town is one of the main producers and exporters of spheres, it is celebrated with charros, cockfights, sports tournaments, fishing tournaments as well as a large display of Christmas spheres.
